Voices for Choice
Because of the Wisconsin Choice Scholarship, I was able to attend private schools throughout kindergarten and high school. School choice in Wisconsin has provided me with the ability to attend a high school that equipped me with the skills I will need in the future.
The Milwaukee Parental Choice Program helped me and my family afford to put our children in a school of our choice, and a high-quality school in our area. The City of Milwaukee does not have many high-quality schools. This voucher was a resource for me and my family to overcome that obstacle.
I became an educator because I wanted to do something meaningful and rewarding. My parents were both teachers so I knew what to expect. I had other jobs before that just left me feeling dissatisfied. I thought I would be good at teaching and decided that I would pursue education.
The choice scholarships allow families like mine to choose a quality education without hassle for our kids. My children benefit from the choice scholarship in so many ways. We love the structure of Granville Lutheran, the family-like environment, and most importantly the caring and nurturing teachers and staff.
I chose to go to a charter school because of the rigorous curriculum that they had to offer. When my parents and I went to the orientation for Milwaukee Excellence Charter School, I immediately noticed how welcoming the staff was. At the orientation, the principal stated the expectations of each student. Afterward, he also stated what each student can expect from them.
My son’s name is Mayjor Fluker and he is 7 years old. I myself attended public schools and I know firsthand how much structure they lack. I knew that I wanted better for my son than what I had. He deserves better than what our traditional public schools offer. We decided to start him in K4 in a charter school.
